In Yorkshire, CT Plus operates a range of transport services from depots in Hull, Leeds and Wakefield, including the Hull park&ride amber line service from Priory Park, a number of Leeds Metro’s My Bus yellow bus services that provide dedicated school transport, and a variety of other local transport services. CT Plus is a part of the transport social enterprise and registered charity HCT Group, which safely delivers 30,000 passengers on their buses every day from depots in Yorkshire and London.
As a social enterprise, CT Plus aims to reinvest surpluses back into the communities where they are earned, developing transport services for those who might find it difficult to get use mainstream public transport. We are also committed to creating jobs and developing skills in the areas where we operate.
For example: in Leeds any surpluses from contracts are used to support the activities of Leeds Alternative Travel – they are a part of the HCT Group that runs community transport for groups and charities, plus a community car scheme for older and disabled people in Leeds. Over the last six months alone, this support has ensured that Leeds Alternative Travel could provide nearly 17,000 passenger trips, making it possible for elderly and disabled people to get out and about – greatly improving their quality of life.
Our success in Leeds has also made it possible to open a training centre there to help unemployed people start their careers in the transport industry.
Just as we do in Leeds, any surpluses from contracts in Hull are reinvested to benefit people in Hull, and we have established a joint venture partnership with the Goodwin Development Trust, to invest any surplus into West Hull Community Transport (WHCT). This means that, over time, delivery of the Hull park&ride amber line service from Priory Park will ensure that WHCT can expand their role in helping community groups, older people and disabled people in Hull to get out and about. The investment also helps to safeguard the jobs of staff at WHCT.
We’re delighted to be working in partnership with a Hull-based social enterprise like the Goodwin Development Trust. Their involvement means that our operation will be developed from a Hull community perspective – essential to our way of doing things.
